Fraction Flash Cards for Grade 1 and 2
Our fraction flash cards use simple bar shapes with shaded sections to help children see the relationship between a fraction and the amount it represents.
The visual bars make it easier for children to understand halves, quarters, and parts of a whole before moving on to more abstract fraction work.
For example, children can see that 1/2 and 2/4 represent the same amount.
First, a whole is divided into two equal parts, with one part shaded. This represents 1/2. The same whole can then be divided into four equal parts. When two of those four parts are shaded, we get 2/4. Although the numbers are different, the shaded amount is the same.
This visual approach is especially helpful when introducing equivalent fractions because children can see how the same quantity can be divided into different numbers of equal parts.
There are 28 fraction flash cards, with four cards included on each sheet.
Benefits of Using Visual Fraction Activities
Visual activities give children a strong starting point for understanding fractions. Instead of simply memorizing fraction names and numbers, they can see what each fraction represents.
These fraction worksheets and activities can help children:
- Understand a part of a whole
- Recognize halves and quarters
- Identify equal parts
- Connect pictures with fraction numbers
- Compare different fraction representations
- Begin understanding equivalent fractions
The flash cards can be used during lessons, revision, or quick practice sessions. They can also be used alongside our fraction clip cards for additional hands-on practice.
