Fractions Clip Cards and Flash Cards for Grade 1 and 2
Learning fractions becomes easier when children can see the parts of a whole rather than working only with numbers. These fraction clip cards give young learners a simple, hands-on way to connect visual shapes with fraction numbers.
Fraction Clip Cards for Grade 1 and 2
Our fraction clip cards help children connect shaded or colored parts of a shape with the correct fraction. Using a clothespin to mark an answer makes the activity interactive and keeps children engaged while they practice.
We created 20 fraction clip cards, with questions ranging from simple to more challenging.
16 Regular Fraction Clip Cards
The first 16 cards show a colored or shaded shape with three fraction choices. Children look carefully at the shape, count the equal parts, and use a clothespin to choose the fraction that represents the shaded portion.
This gives children practice with simple fractions such as halves and quarters while helping them understand that a fraction represents part of a whole.
4 Challenge Clip Cards
The remaining four cards are larger and include several possible answers for one given fraction. They are designed for children who are ready for an extra challenge or already have a good understanding of basic fractions.
For example, 1/4 may be shown in the center of the card with eight choices around it. Children need to identify the different pictures and representations that match 1/4.
A card may include options such as:
- A circle divided into 8 equal parts with 2 parts shaded
- 2 colored objects out of 8
- The fraction written in words
- A square divided into 4 equal parts with 1 part shaded
Children carefully compare the choices and clip all the answers that represent the given fraction.
This activity is especially useful for children who are ready to move beyond simply identifying a fraction and begin recognizing equivalent fraction representations.
