What Are Adjectives?

Adjectives are describing words. They give us more information about nouns and pronouns.

Adjectives can tell us about the size, color, shape, number, feeling, taste, or sound of something. They help children add more detail to their sentences and make their writing more interesting.

Examples of Adjectives

• Appearance: big, red, shiny, tall
• Feel: soft, rough, cold, warm
• Taste: sweet, sour, salty, bitter
• Quantity: one, two, some, more, less
• Sound: loud, quiet, noisy

For example:

• The big dog runs fast.
• She has a red ball.
• The candy is sweet.
• We hear a loud sound.
