Subitizing Clip Cards for Preschool and Kindergarten
Subitizing is the ability to quickly recognize how many objects there are without counting them one by one. This is an important early maths skill for preschool and kindergarten children.
These subitizing clip cards help children see numbers in different ways. For example, the number 3 can be shown as:
- 3 coloured dots in a ten frame
- 3 dots on a dice
- 3 fingers
- 3 tally marks
- The numeral 3
The number is the same, but it looks different each time. With practice, children learn to recognize the quantity quickly.
In this subitizing activity, each card shows different ways of representing numbers. Some pictures represent the target number, while others do not. Children look carefully at each card and find the pictures that show the correct number. They can then use a clothespin or paper clip to mark their answers.
